Homemade white bread

Baking bread was something new for Daughter although Mommy has done it before. She warned Daughter, if you start baking bread you are addicted to it. Mommy was right.. as always. Daughter likes baking bread so much now, she could do it everyday!

What type of bread should we bake next?

ENJOY!

Ingredients

The Dough

Flour 500gr
Yeast (dry) 1 bag
Salt 10 gr
Water (Lukewarm) 300 ml

Preparation Process

Mix the water and the yeast in a bowl and keep it like that for 5 minutes. The yeast will be activated right now.

Put the flour and salt in a bowl and after the 5 minutes you can add the water and yeast mixture. I used a kitchen machine to mix this dough but you can also use your hands. When you need to knead, make sure you knead for 20 minutes to make sure the dough will be elastic enough. When you use a kitchen machine 10 minutes should be fine.

When your dough is elastic enough make a ball from it and place it in the bowl, cover it with foil and leave it in the room for 1 hour.

After one hour you put the sides of the dough down to the bottom and you create a tight ball. This will be the shape of the bread. Leave it under some foil again for 1 hour.

(you can add some flour in the bowl so that the dough will not stick to the bowl)

When the dough is almost ready, make sure you preheat the oven on 230 degrees with the pan already inside! The pan also needs to be hot so that you get a nice steamy effect when you add the dough.

Place the dough on some baking paper and cut with a nice some stripes into the dough (+- 3cm). By doing this you make sure the dough get some space for rising in the oven.

Place the baking paper with the dough in the hot pan and cover it with the lid of the pan (this one is also preheated, so be careful!)

Put the pan into the oven with lid for 15 minutes, after 15 minutes place the pan in the over without lid for 15 minutes as well, to make sure the bread will be crispy.

Take the bread out of the oven and let is cool down before cutting the bread.

Tips and variations

The bread is the best on the same day. Also the day after it is tasty. After that, you can best toast it or use if for toasties, french toast or bruschetta’s.

The toastie on the picture is made with:

  • Mozzarella
  • Pesto
  • Prosciutto
  • Pepper
