We do not cook often Indonesian dishes but we love it! A Beef Rendang is a spicy meet dish. We served it with rice, a nice and tasty dish!



The Beef Rendang

Shallots 3
Garlic cloves 2
Sambal  1 spoon
Ginger 4 cm
Turmeric 2 teaspoons
Salted Cashew nuts 75 gr
Grounded cumin 1,5 spoons
Coriander 1 teaspoon
Beef 1 kilo
Peanut oil 1 teaspoon
Coconut milk 400 ml
Coconut cream 100 gr
Chicken stock 1,5 cubes
Lemon grass 2 sticks
Lime 1

Preparation Process

Cut the shallots in small pieces and put them in the kitchen machine. Cut the garlic and add together with the Sambal. Peal the ginger and cut in small pieces and also add to the machine together with the nuts, and all herbs. Mix the machine for 2/3 minutes.

Cut the beef in pieces of 3 x 3 cm. Put some salt and pepper on it. Heat up some oil in a pan and fry the beef for 3 minutes. Add the coconut cream and milk to the meat. Break the stock cubes and put the crumbs into the pan. Lower the fires and stir until the coconut cream has gone away. Peal the lemon zest from the lemon and put those pieces into the pan. Put a cover on the pan and let it steam for 7 hours in the oven on 130 degrees.

After 5 hours put the cover from the pan so the sauce can reduce a bit. The Rendang is ready when the meat is soft. Remove the lemon zest. 

Serve with some pieces of lemon. 

Tips and variations

Delicious with some rice!
