Nonna’s ‘vleesie’

Nonna’s ‘vleesie’! A dish that we prepare really often! This meat is sliced very thin and got a nice crispy crust on the outside.

Our Nonna (Italian Grandma) is the founder of this dish and the whole family is preparing this meat on a weekly basis. Our Nonna bought the meat per Kilo, so she could prepare it for the whole family!

In Italy, they start with a ‘primo’ which is mostly a pasta or rice dish. The second dish ‘the secondo’ is one with meat or fish.

Mostly we eat it in the same order. A nice basic pasta with our homemade tomato sauce first, followed by someĀ  ‘nonna’s vleesie’ together with a fresh salad.

Nonna’s Vleesie

Go to your butcher and ask if they want to slice beef on the machine (stand 2)

Beef slices (very thin) 500 gr (8pax)
Breadcrumbs 150 gr
Parsley 1 bunch
Parmesan cheese 100 gr
Salt / Pepper
Eggs 3
Sunflower oil

Preparation Process

Put all the ingredients in one bowl and mix it together. Break the eggs and stir. Take a slice of thin beef and put it in the eggs and then place it into the breadcrumbs mixture. Do this with all slices.

Put a thick layer of oil into a pan and fry all the beef slices until they are nicely browned.

Tips and variations

As a side dish you can prepare a salad:

  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Cucumber
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
